Schwartz (1896-1977) was a Russian born American artist who studied at the Vilna Art School as well as the Art Institute of Chicago. Through the 1920s, Schwartz supported his tuition as a painting student by singing principle tenor roles in both vaudevillian and operatic peformances. His career as a musician continued to influence his work as a painter and his projects have been closely sourced to the artistic philosophies of Wassily Kandinsky, who also explored the relationships between music, spirituality, color and form.
