Man with Dark Hat and Folded Arms, charcoal and pencil on paper,8 1/2 x 11 1/2 (29.2 x 21.6 cm), PROVENANCE: From the collection of Vladimir Stashis, Ukraine 1925, - passed down thru inheritance to his daughter, COLLECTOR'S BACKGROUND: Vladimir Stashis P.H.D. graduated law school in 1949 and was appointed a judge in the Ukraine in 1956. He became head of the Department of Criminal Law. He became the International Court of Arbitration (The Hague, Netherlands). Mr. Stashis was a member of the Presidium of the Academy of Law of Ukraine . For twenty (20) consecutive years , the Ukrainian government had appointed Mr. Stashis as a representative of Ukraine in the Vice-Rector of the Kharkov International Court of Arbitration (The Hague, Netherlands). During the course of his life he was very affectionate about Ukrainian and Russian 19th Century, lover of Chekhov, Gogol, Tolstoy, Vasilkovsky, Repin, Berkos, etc.
