Signed in pencil 'Dix' lower right. - Inscribed in pencil by an unknown hand "Carton für Bild: Neugeborenes Kind" with information on the technique and dimensions and dated "1927" on the mat card. Two red chalk drawings in particular (cf. also Lorenz NSk 8.4.31 and Otto Conzelmann (ed.), Otto Dix, Handzeichnungen, no. 91, illus.) anticipate the work "Neugeborener mit Nabelschnur auf Tuch (Ursus)" (Löffler 1926/7), one of which being the present work, showing the newborn on a folded cloth. 51.4 x 44.1 cm
