ANDRE LHOTE 1885-1962 Bordeaux 1885 - Paris 1962 (French) Title: Saturday, Next to the Hearth, 1909-1910 Technique: Original Hand Signed and Titled Ink Drawing on paper Size: 19.7 x 26.5 cm / 7.7 x 10.4 in Additional Information: This Ink Drawing is hand signed in ink by the artist "A.Lhote." in the lower part. It is hand titled "Samedi" (Saturday) in the lower right corner of the image. It comes with a note which reads: "Ce dessin fait partie d'un lot qui Lhote désireux d'illustrer un livre d'A. Suares lui avait envoyé vers 1909 (?) pour montrer de quoi il était capable. Mme Suares l'a cédé à Prouté de qui je l'ai reçu en juillet 49." (This drawing is part of a lot that Lhote, who wanted to illustrate a book of A. Suares, had sent him in 1909 (?) to show what he was capable of. Ms. Suares then gave it to Prouté [probably Paul Prouté from galerie Paul Prouté, Paris] from whom I received in July 49.) It was drawn in circa 1909-1910. Provenance: The artist André Suarès (Félix-André-Yves Scantrel 1868 - 1948) Mrs Suarès Galerie Paul Prouté Private French collection (from 1949) This drawing is recorded in the archives of Madame Dominique Bermann-Martin who is compiling the forthcoming catalogue raisonné. Condition: Very good condition. Some handling creases. Small fold in lower right corner. Attached with tape to a mounting board.
