Willem de Kooning (Dutch - American, 1904 -1997) Pastel and Charcoal on paper - Woman 1964. This exquisite piece of art was created by abstract expressionist master Willem de Kooning in 1964 as indicated on original label. His expressive use of pastels ran counter to the traditional technique of applying the darkest pigments first, then layering lighter pigments to build forms and create highlights. He applied dark and light colors exuberantly, with no attention to hierarchy of tone. PROVENANCE: Consigned to Allan Rich Galleries, N.Y. In 1979 sold to Estate of Current Private Collection. Original receipt of sale attached. Signed lower left 'De Kooning'. Original Gallery label and sale receipt attached. Measures 21" x 17". Frame approximately 26" x 19.5". Fine condition.
