He depicts them in prints, they serve as the basis for his famous embossings and he nailed them to hundreds in his nail pictures. In the present small object, a single large nail pierces through a piece of cardboard and thus forms the center of the composition. A peripheral pencil outline adds a graphical supplement. The object is from an edition of several unique copies. The nail object is signed and dated lower right in pencil 'Uecker 2000'. It is mounted in a mat at the reverse corners and is in very good condition. The object measures 14.2 x 21.2 x 1.4. The framed dimensions are 32.5 x 42.9 x 3.9 cm. Günther Uecker (b. 1930) Günther Uecker studied painting in Wismar and Berlin-Weißensee from 1949 to 1953. He left the GDR and moved to West Germany to continue his studies at the art academy in Düsseldorf under Otto Pankok. Already in 1956/57, he created his first relief-like 'nail paintings', for which he is internationally known today. Some of his art can be classified as kinetic art. He represented Germany in 1970 and 1972 at the Biennale in Venice and took more than once part in the documenta. He was a professor at the academy in Düsseldorf from 1974 to 1995, and has won numeral awards. Günther Uecker lives and works in Düsseldorf.
