Feliks Topolski (1907-1989) - Portrait of Count Jan Tarnowski, charcoal, signed and dated 1943 lower left, 73 x 54 cm (28 3/4 x 21 1/4 in). Count Jan Juljusz Tarnowski (1900-1966) was descended from the line of Polish nobility originally from Dzików. He was born in Abbazia, Croatia, educated in England, lived for several years in China before the war, hunted big game in Africa, and eventually settled in Edinburgh, where he died.
