Purchased as a suite of six drawings, directly from the artist during a visit to the New York studio of Willem de Kooning, in 1951. The works were drawn while De Kooning was teaching at the Black Mountain College, North Carolina, circa 1948, and show a formal figure drawing technique that the artist was demonstrating at the time.
