Kippenberger's 'hotel drawings' deserve a special mention within the artist's oeuvre. In 2013, a selection of them was exhibited as part of the Kippenberger retrospective at the Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin; the auction record of these works on paper amounts to almost 42,000 Euros The present drawing was executed on letter paper, which was available at the Hotel Grand Lundia in 1991. It depicts an abstract formation of lines and circles, crossed by the red colored words "Faule Sau" (= "Lazy Slob") on top. The work reflects the artist's constant drive to express his thoughts and artistic ideas at all times and possible locations. Martin Kippenberger spent a lot of time travelling around the world. Since canvases and painting utensils were not necessarily always at hand, the artist needed a useful and easily available equivalent, which he found in the letter paper of his places of residence. This explains why Kippenberger's 'hotel drawings' are rated as one of his most important sources of inspiration. The work is in very good condition with only minimal traces of use. It is slightly kinked at the edges. The artist has signed and dated his work lower right "M.K. 91". It measures 29.5 x 20.7 cm.
