Provenance: The Saint Louis Artist Guild An International Private Collection, Tel Aviv, Israel, London and New York, NY cf. Ernest Trova infuses the first of this pair of early drawings with a playful surrealist vocabulary of gestural pictographs of linear form rendered like script and reminiscent of the tightly drawn and compacted linear works with form much of the oeuvre of Mark Tobey. Trovas treatment of the second takes a Dadaist approach with calligraphic script comprised of artist_s names written on vellum that is applied to and set against an interactive painterly background. Intimate and gem-like in their stature and somber in tone the offered 1954 early works acknowledge the influence noted artists, such as Mark Tobey, Arshile Gorky and Jean Dubuffet had on the early formative work of Ernest Trova.
