Pencil drawing on very thin ribbed laid paper 35.3 x 46/46.6 cm. Signed 'E L Kirchner' to the centre of the lower edge. Titled and dated by the artist to the reverse 'Unterhaltung eines sitzenden Paares./28'. - With a faded estate stamp to the reverse, inscribed "B Da/Bi 2" (one "3" previously crossed through) therein. - Professionally restored defects, the right corners added. We would like to thank Gerd Presler for the extra information he provided. An etching by Kirchner from 1929 is related in motif (cf. Dube R 601, "Die Verbindung"); there are also parallels in his sketchbooks (cf. Presler Skb 150).
