JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT (AMERICAN 1960-1988), "Tribute to Hank" (Double sided drawing) , Mixed media on paper, 10 x 18 in (25.4 x 45.7 cm) , Signed lower middle , PROVENANCE AND DESCRIPTION: From the artist to Antonio Romano owner of the Giotto Café at 23 Cleveland St., Manhattan, NY from 1982 - 1986. This café was frequented by Keith Haring, Leo Castelli, and Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Owner has retained possession of artwork for about 30 years. This drawing is double sided and done in oil stick and one side depicts the head of an African American with a crown over his head and at the top a green field with numerous letter "A". This was a tribute to Jean-Michel's favorite baseball player, Hank Aaron. The airplane on the left reflects references to Basquiat's trips to Haiti and Puerto Rico. The verso is signed and depicts a car with a ladder and a black head with a crown of thorns. A full notarized letter from the owner stating the provenance and history of the piece will accompany this drawing
