A signed carved oosik, or walrus penile bone, featuring a pod of beautifully detailed bowhead whales carved in relief down the length. A figural head is carved at the small end, while the wide end features a carved walrus head with walrus tusk insets. Signed on the underside by Carson B. Oozeva, Sr. (1947-2017), the renowned Siberian Yupik carver from Gambell, located on St. Lawrence Island, Alaska. This sensational piece is supported partially by its carved walrus tusks on the front, and the back-end knob of the bone itself. Measures approximately 22" x 2.5" x 3" tall.
