GEORGES CHAUVEL (1886 - 1962). "Bust of a young lady", ca. 1930. Patinated bronze sculpture. Signed. Measurements: 42 x 28 x 16 cm. Georges Chauvel was one of the pioneering sculptors of the first generation who incorporated a modernist aesthetic into his interpretation of the female figure. He participated frequently in exhibitions in Paris, standing out in the Salon d'Automne, and received the title of knight of the Legion of Honor. Chauvel enjoyed great success during the first decades of the last century; proof of this was that he worked for the prestigious Parisian perfume firm Caron, which commissioned a sculpture from the artist. Within the Art Deco style, we find in this female bust the characteristic approach to elegance, geometry and sophistication, without losing the classic lines in the profile of the represented. The sinuousness in the fall of the hair stands out, which contrasts with the roundness of the face and the forced foreshortening. The lady, in addition, with her hairstyle and nudity, evokes the luxury and decadent style characteristic of the fashion of the twenties.
