Sha Fu (1831-1906) China, late Qing dynasty B. 46,5 cm, R. Scholar Talking with an Old Woman. Fan Painting, framed under Glass, ink and colors on gold paper. Inscription and signature by the artist: „Painted in the style of the Yuan masters, in Shenjiang, Sha Fu“. One double seal of the artist: „Shanchun“. From a European private collection, acquired prior to 1990 Sha Fu, style name Shanchun, was a famous figure painter from Suzhou in Jiangsu province. He was a pupil of Ren Xiong (1820-1857) and became one of the two leading masters of the city. Often he painted popular anecdotes from history as is the case in this nice fan painting
