Glass with applied / inlaid elements Joel Philip Myers (b. 1934) – American artist, sculptor and lecturer Incised signature and date ‘Joel Philip Myers 1990’ Dimensions: 33.5 x 42 x 10.5 cm Provenance: private property Bavaria In 1978 Myers began with Contiguous Fragment Series, which he continued until the early 1990s; the series encompasses glass objects that are transformed into complex impressions of the Danish lake and forest landscape through complex layers of applied and inserted colored glass elements in contrasting colors Condition: The glass vase is in very good condition with smaller signs of wear like chips along the edges. Joel Philip Myers (b. 1934) Born in Paterson (New Jersey), Myers studied commercial art and design at the Parsons School of Design from 1951-54, and later studied at various further institutions, including the Copenhagen Kunsthåndvaerkerskolen from1957-58 and the Alfred University New York from 1960-68. Since 1954, Myers has been producing designs for various design companies, for example Bjørn & Bernadotte, Copenhagen. Since 1962 he held various short-term lectures. After being the artistic director of Blenko Glass factory in Wilton (Virginia) from 1963-70, Myers took part in building up a glass and ceramics department at Illinois State University from 1970 onwards and later taught there until 1997. Myers' versatile oeuvre is characterized in particular by a free and experimental use of the material glass. His works can be seen among others at the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra, the Röhsska Museum in Gothenburg, the Metropolitan Museum in New York and the Museum Bellerive in Zurich.
