Giacomo Manzù (1908-1991) Born in Bergamo Giacomo Manzù discovered his passion for sculpture during his vocational training as a carver. He attended evening classes in Bergamo, but was primarily self-taught. His work, mostly bronze works, includes many religious sculptures, like the bronze relief door ‘Gate of Death’ of St. Peter in Rome or the ‘Gate of love’ of Salzburg Cathedral and over 50 depictions of cardinals, whose sight impressed him during a journey to Rome in 1934. In addition, Manzú also created graceful female nudes for which his wife, a prima ballerina, served as a model as well as portrait busts. Manzù worked as a teacher at the Academia di Brera in Milan and at the Summer Academy in Salzburg. Twice he took part in the Biennale in Venice.  Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
