The figure depicts the mythological motif of Leda and the swan, a quite popular and erotic subject of the history of art. Leda appears here as a young female nude wearing contemporary hair and head dress of the Art Déco period. Under her right arm, the swan clings tenderly to her body. Condition: The figure is in good condition, showing light wear and some minor abrasion of the patina. The base shows some small losses. The dimensions of the figure are circa 35 x 61 x 15 cm, and the base measures 6 x 62.5 x 17.5 cm (H x W x D). Joé Descomps (1869-1950) Joé Descomps was a French sculptor who became known in the 1920s in Paris, specializing in bronze and ivory statuettes. He studied at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts.
