Bronze, nickel-plated Switzerland, 2011 Hans-Rudolf Giger (1940-2014) - Swiss artist, scene and costume designer; his activities for the movie 'Alien' were awarded with the Oscar in 1980 Verso on the plinth signed with the monogram 'HRG', numbered '40/99' and with foundry stamp of ARA-Kunst Total height(incl. plinth): 59.4 cm Very good condition Highly decorative bronze, inspired by surrealism and fantastic realism The nickel-plated bronze sculpture 'Nubian Queen' by Swiss artist Hans-Rudolf Giger (1940-2014) immediately catches the eye with its unusual and imaginative form. The figure of an Egyptian queen with overlong legs rises on a hieroglyphic plinth. Giger was friends with some of the exponents of the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism, including Ernst Fuchs, this is reflected in a significant influence of the artistic movement on his work. Condition: The bronze is in a very good condition, showing only minor signs of wear. The overall height including the plinth is 59.4 cm. HR Giger (1940-2014) HR Giger, actually Hans Rudolf Giger, studied interior architecture and industrial design at the School of Applied Arts in Zurich. From 1966, he established himself as an interior architect and designer. At the same time, he was active as an artist. His artistic output comprises major paintings, as well as prints, sculptures and furnitures. From 1968, Giger decided to focus on his artistic activities, whereas he also became a successful scene and costume designer. His performances in the movie 'Alien' were, for instance, awarded with the Oscar for the best visual effects in 1980.
