Bronze with brown patina France, around 1900 Maurice Bouval (1863-1916) - French sculptor of the Art Nouveau Signed 'Bouval' on the plinth Monumental and powerful design Total height, with base: 47 cm Good overall condition The present bronze is the work of the French sculptor of the Art Nouveau, Maurice Bouval (1863-1916). It shows the French national heroine Joan of Arc in armor, holding a sword in her hands. At her feet, she has put down her helmet, an ax, and a chain. The statue particularly delights with the powerful, monumental attitude of Joan of Arc, whose expression is enhanced by the waving hair. The figure is signed 'Bouval' on the back of the plinth. It is in good overall condition, showing some wear. The sword of the figure has broken off at the top and bottom. The overall height with base is about 47 cm. Maurice Bouval (1863-1916) The French sculptor Maurice Bouval, student of the painter and sculptor Alexandre Falguière (1831-1900), created most of his artworks between 1880 and 1914. He also crafted art objects from bronze, such as candlesticks, candelabra and chandeliers or table lamps in the style of the Art Nouveau. He presented several of his works at the World's Fair in Paris in 1890. His bronze bust of Ophelia is considered his most famous work.
