HR Giger established an iconography of fantastic creatures, characterized by the fusion of organic and mechanical forms. His depictions of alien figures, well-known from movies like 'Alien' and 'Species', have been widely quoted, copied and continually re-developed as well as rendered him his image as 'the inventor of aliens'. The present sculpture reveals a female torso, reflecting HR Giger's characteristic 'Biomechanoid' art. The coarse-grained rust patina highlights the fascinating character of the sculpture. Aside from the normal edition of 49 copies, 15 'artist's proofs' were edited. Condition: The work is in very good condition. The sculpture measures 58.5 x 18.5 x 15 cm, including the stand. HR Giger (1940-2014) HR Giger, actually Hans Rudolf Giger, studied interior architecture and industrial design at the School of Applied Arts in Zurich. From 1966, he established himself as an interior architect and designer. At the same time, he was active as an artist. His artistic output comprises major paintings, as well as prints, sculptures and furnitures. From 1968, Giger decided to focus on his artistic activities, whereas he also became a successful scene and costume designer. His performances in the movie 'Alien' were, for instance, awarded with the Oscar for the best visual effects in 1980.
