LeWitt thus tried various possibilities of variation in systems which make no statement about something other than itself, thus being concrete. The enameled steel sculpture is signed on a label underneath 'Sol LeWitt' and numbered '34'/35. It bears small scuffs, slight surface soil and a small label on the right side. The label underneath is somewhat darkened and stained. The sculpture measures 30 x 45 x 15 cm. Sol LeWitt (1928-2007) Sol LeWitt was born in 1928 in Hartford, Connecticut, USA. From 1945 to 1949 he studied at the School of Visual Arts of Syracuse University. In 1953 he settled in New York, where he worked as a graphic designer and later also taught at various art schools. In the early 1960s, the artist developed his own style with geometric sculptures and modular work. By sobriety and logic of his work and by theoretical statements Sol LeWitt was an important stimulator of conceptual art.
