Not signed. Foundry stamp "NOACK BERLIN" reverse lower edge. Probably one of just a few known casts. Acc. to Laur, one cast in the Schleswig-Holsteinisches Landesmuseum Schloss Gottorf, Schleswig, Horn collection. Like this one a posthumous cast, most probably 1950s. - Very rare. Confirmed by Ernst Barlach, Ernst Barlach licence administration, Ratzeburg, 17 October 2014 This mask is a detail from Barlach's work "Vergnügtes Einbein" (Laur 567). It was made after a clay model of 1934. According to Laur, Friedrich Schult of Güstrow initiated the first posthumous cast in the 1950s. Rare - no other versions of the bronze were yet known to exist beyond the example in the Schleswig museum. According to Ernst Barlach, the present bronze - well chased and beautifully patinated - belonged to the casts once commissioned at Noack. Height 11.1 cm
