On the plinth, stamped signature "Immendorff", numbered and foundry stamp "SCHMÄKE DÜSSELDORF". Editioned E.A. Artist's proof aside an edition of 6 numbered bronzes. "For me, the monkey was and is simply a second ego. Symbol for the ambivalence of existence as an artist, of conviction and self-doubt. It is silly and wise and stands for oppositions. The monkey appears sitting on my back, and in front of me is the picture I am painting which it attacks and then paints something else or paints over me."
