DESCRIPTION: After Jean Baptiste Clesinger (French, 1814-1883). Bronze bust of woman with bonnet. Reproduction of a bust created by artist Jean Baptiste Clesinger. Incized on the back "J. Clesinger Rome 1858". Also marked " F. Barbedienne. Fondeur." with stamp for "Reduction Mecanique A. Collas Brevete". Jean Baptiste Clesinger was a sculptuor throughout his life, exhibiting in several Parisian salons throughout his life. Achille Collas created a machine to copy sculptures at a smaller scale, the "réduction méchanique", popularizing small sculptures. He has been credited with being almost entirely responsible for "the transformation of the bronze industry". MEASUREMENTS: 6" wide x 4-1/2" deep x 10-3/4" high. CONDITION: No defects noted.
