작품 상세

On the bronze titled 'I AM LONELY'. Edition Matthias Buck und Christian Nagel, Munich. One of 5 artist's copies aside from the numbered edition of 10. Each varies in its composition and dimensions. Unique work. „The editions and multiples create, as it were, a bridge by which the concept of reproduction and its role gain access to all the other media domains of Kippenberger's art. As a concept, reproduction always has a double meaning for him: not only the uniqueness and originality of the specific art object are being addressed, but also the general possibility, or impossibility, for an artist to create something out of nothing, to create something new. The idea that mechanical reproduction and its technical possibilities could signify the end of the work of art is hereby reversed. It is often the copy or the edition that first makes something into art which, so to speak, makes the trait visible that identifies it as such. Reproductions, duplications and copies are needed, as is the work's title, to form a context in which an artwork can actually evolve. The uncommented single object, with all its contradictions and relations, cannot at all develop the latitude that Kippenberger needs to position or to activate his art."
