Igor Mitoraj, (Polish, born 1944), Classical Torso, the patinated bronze torso with projecting cut nails and inset small faces, a second partial torso if attached to his right hip,, standing upon a stone effect plinth base, unsigned, 167cm including plinth Purchased by the vendor from a London Gallery in 1992 Igor Mitoraj studied painting at the Fine Arts Academy in Cracow supervised – among others - by Tadeusz Kantor (1967-1968). He left Poland for France in 1968, where he studied at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In the mid seventies, he focused on sculpture creating small bandaged heads and torsos and he first found acclaim at his first individual exhibition in Paris in 1976. The artist considers the classic Greek and Roman art legacy of ancient times, the most valuable and inspiring in the history of art. h:90 cm
