(Italian, b.1948) Listed artist, known for hand-blown glass, abstract sculpture, torsos, and figurative work. This masterpiece of clear Murano and striated Calcedonia glass depicts a treasured embrace between two lovers, one holding the others head and gazing into each others' eyes. Multicolor Calcedonia ribbons enhance the volume of clear Murano and give it visual motion. The sculpture stands on a block of opaque black glass, and together they measure approximately 19.5 x 13.5 x 9.5" with a respectable shipping weight of 68 lbs. Very good condition. Calcedonia is one of the oldest and rarest types of glass, first developed on Murano during the mid-fifteenth century. For 500 years, the mystery of creating Calcedonia has fascinated the world, and artifacts made of it are among the most treasured holdings of many famous museums. The uncertainties and difficulties of Calcedonia glass production were resolved only by the masters of Murano and lost with the fall of the Venetian Republic. The secret of the production of Calcedonia was finally rediscovered by Lorenza Radi in 1856, but lost again by the turn of the 20th century. In 1977, the master Loredano Rosin,
