This relief features the profile of feminine figure within an arrangement of horizontal and vertical lines. Oskar Schlemmer (1888-1943) Oskar Schlemmer first studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Stuttgart and then at the Stuttgart Academy of Fine Arts, where he met Willi Baumeister and Otto Meyer-Amden. In 1909 he entered the Composition School of Friedrich von Keller. Schlemmer moved to Berlin in 1911 and became interested in Cubism and French Avantgarde. He became a member of the Üecht-group 1919, together with Willi Baumeister among others: the group was committed to reform Art teaching. In 1920 he was appointed by Walter Gropius to lead the workshop for wall, wood –and stone painting in the Bauhaus in Weimar. In 1925 Schlemmer directed the stage design in Dessau. From 1928 onwards, the artist taught drawing, scenic theory as also the subject ´´Mensch´´ (Human), which entailed formal, biological and philosophical contents. These topics engaged him throughout his entire activity. The Third Reich vilified Schlemmer as ´´degenerate artist´´, yet he is today considered as one of the most relevant artists of the Modern era.
