. Charles C. Stadden (English, b.1919), fourth quarter 20th century. A limited-edition custom military chess set: "The Military Chess Set of the War Between the States circa 1863” comprising a mahogany rectangular box in the campaign style with a removable lid the underside of which is an inlaid wooden chess board. The interior of box fitted for the 32 hand painted pewter playing pieces including primary figures Lincoln, Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, Custer, Grant, Sherman, McClellan, Jackson, Longstreet Stuart and other notables with the pawns represented by members of the 2nd Wis. Iron Brigade and Wheats Louisiana Tigers. All pieces are set on marble plinths and the undersides with green felt also inscribed. Tallest pieces approximately 5" in height. This is set #137 of an edition of 1000. ".
