Gorham Manufacturing Company (American, founded 1831) Sterling Silver Tankard (Beer Stein) 1887 Measurements: 7 1/4 inches high x 7 inches wide Weight: 35.59 troy ounces Sterling silver tankard of cylindrical form with a hinged domed cover and scroll thumbpiece, raised on a stepped circular foot. The body is richly repoussé-decorated with an encircling floral and foliate motif, rendered in high relief and framed by reeded bands above and below. The handle is substantial and vertically ribbed, terminating in a molded junction at the body. The lid and base exhibit complementary reeded detailing, creating a cohesive and well-balanced design. Marked on the underside with the Gorham hallmarks, including the fleur-de-lis date symbol corresponding to 1887.
