Cartier (French, founded 1847) Art Deco period, circa 1920s 14 karat gold, sterling silver, ruby Cigarette case Rectangular cigarette case with radiating sunburst engine-turned decoration to the exterior, centered by a geometric clasp set with two square-cut rubies in a gold mount. The interior fitted with a silver-gilt finish and engraved with the presentation monogram “Madeleine S. Gaston, Millbrook, N.Y.” The restrained geometry, precious material accents, and crisp linear ornament reflect classic Art Deco design associated with Cartier’s interwar production.
