Provenance: Old and important European private collection - Wang Yu, style name Dongzhuang, was from Taicang in Jiangsu province. He studied landscape painting with Wang Yuanqi (1642-1715) and this painting shows clearly the influence of this famous master. It also shows characteristics of the Yuan master of literati painting, Huang Gongwang (1269-1354), as is stated by the painter himself in his inscription
