19th century American gasolier attributed to Cornelius & Baker, Philadelphia, now electrified. The bronze, five-arm chandelier is adorned with the three allegorical figures on the stem, “Art, Science, and Industry”, that represent the Victorian love of symbolism. They are surmounted by three Baroque-style, female busts and have etched shades with ruffled edges. A similar chandelier was on the cover of a catalogue by the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the exhibition “19th Century America, Furniture and Other Decorative Arts”, April 16- September 7, 1970. Dimensions: 67"h x 31"w.Cornelius & Baker of Philadelphia were described in the exhibition catalogue of The Great Exhibition at the Crystal Palace in London in 1851 as, "the most extensive manufacturer of lamps, chandeliers, gas-fixtures &c., in the United States, employing upwards of seven hundred persons in the several departments of the establishment, which has been in existence for upwards of a quarter of a century."For shipping quote, please contact Box Brothers Sacramento at boxbrosacto@gmail.com.
