D 283 by Professor Paul Scheurich (1883-1945) from 1913 1st choice Height: 18.5 cm Good condition A very detailed and lovingly modeled Russian dancer from Meissen's five-figure series 'Russian Ballet', which were created after characters in Sergei Diaghilev's ballet Karneval Paul Scheurich is considered one of the most important porcelain modelers of the 20th century. He created a total of 102 figures and groups for the Meissen porcelain manufactory. Inspired by models from the 18th century, especially creations by Kaendler and Bustelli, he endowed his porcelain figurines with elegance and refinement with his characteristic facial expressions, gestures and movements. The present figure of Pierrot is kneeling in an expressive dance pose on a slightly domed oval base. Gazing towards the sky, his arms are crossed in front of the body with the overlong sleeves hanging down. The face is heavily made up and the hair is covered with a black cap. Around the neck sits a large grey ruff. The dancer is wearing a long white jacket with a subtle polka dot pattern and two purple bows on the hips as well as matching pants. A green-lined hat lies next to his feet. Literature: see J.
