작품 상세

Large-format, square leaded glass window by the important Austrian Informel artist Hans Staudacher, dated 1964. The composition presents an expressive, dynamic abstract visual language of curved lines, circular segments and diagonally structured forms. At the center is a colored oval form bearing the well-known characteristic signature “Staudacher 64”, fired directly into the glass. The coloration is achieved exclusively through colored structural glass in blue, green, yellow, orange and translucent gray tones. The lead cames are carefully laid and emphasize the rhythmic structuring of the surface. Translucent verso, with a strong light-dependent visual effect. In good and original condition. Large-format signature centered: “Staudacher 64”, dimensions: 135 x 135 cm. Hans Staudacher (1923–2021) is regarded as one of the most important representatives of Austrian Informel and post-war abstract art. After initially working as a decorative and church painter, he developed an independent gestural-abstract visual language from the 1950s onwards. He achieved international recognition through, among other things, his participation in the Venice Biennale in 1962 and numerous exhibitions in Austria and abroad. The creation of these leaded glass windows dates to a particularly productive phase of the early 1960s, during which Staudacher increasingly expanded his Informel vocabulary into architectural and applied art contexts. During this period, wall works, color windows and glass works for public and sacred spaces were created. The present work stands as an exemplary expression of this transition from free painting to spatially oriented light art. The use of glass enabled Staudacher to explore a new dimension of color: not as surface, but as a carrier of light. The work fundamentally changes its appearance depending on the incidence of light and unites painting, sculpture and architecture within a single object.
