작품 상세
Sonja Blomdahl (American, b. 1952) large claret, black and deep mauve incalmo glass vase engraved in script: "Sonja/SP 8585". h. 10", dia. 13-1/2" Provenance: Estate of Carolyn G. Fay, Houston, Texas. Notes: "Color is often the joy in making a piece. I want the colors to glow and react with each other. The clear band between the colors acts as an optic lens; it moves the color around and allows you to see into the piece." --Sonja Blomdahl A master glassblower, Blomdahl studied with the Venetian glass master Francesco "Checco" Ongaro, learning the rigorous and painstaking incalmo technique. Works produced with this ancient technique, perfected by the glass artists of Murano, are formed by several delicate bubbles of variously colored glass which are opened and joined. This requires great skill since the elements to be joined must be the exact same diameter. The result is a vessel with horizontal bands of color. Blomdahl has perfected this technique with her vibrant, luminous works which explore the interplay between color and shape. Blomdahl attended the Massachusetts College of Art, Boston, before studying at the Orrefors Glass Skolan, Sweden. She has exhibited widely and her works are in numerous public and private collections.
