Aymara Man's Ceremonial Poncho, Western Dept. of Oruro, 19th C. Alpaca. A rare and beautiful man’s heirloom ceremonial poncho with applied fringe. The dense polychrome stripes reflect the Bolivian artist’s mastery of the orchestration of juxtaposed colors to create an overall impression. The maker and wearer of this ancestor garment lived in a remote village in the dry wastes of western Bolivia and yet created this beautiful garment from her knowledge of dye sources and production. Very good condition with no repair. 4'8'' x 6'6'' (142 x 198 cm)
