A Chinese peasant’s shallow conical hat, 25½” diam, constructed from fine strips of bamboo intricately woven and lined with rushes and strips of paper, painted and underlaid with characters, the underside with maker’s (?) printed label, and with reinforcing band around the rim, the centre of the underside having woven openwork band to fit over a very small head, and retaining ribbon.
