Tuch Wien.‘ Front on the base embossed title ‘Daphne’ Embossed number underneath ‘4278 21’ Dimensions: 37.7 x 26 x 13 cm Very good condition Daphne, the mountain nymph in Greek mythology as ceramic bust A ceramic bust of Daphne by Ernst Wahliss Porcelain Manufactory from Vienna. With a soft expression the bust is executed with ivory-colored skin, the glaze heightened with shiny accents, on a brown square plinth. Her hair adorns a big laurel wreath and she is dressed in a gown with rich drapery. Condition: The ceramic bust is in very good condition. The dimensions are 37.7 x 26 x 13 cm. Ernst Wahliss Porcelain Manufactory The Ernst Wahliss Porcelain Manufactory was founded in 1862 in Trnovany in the Czech Republic. The company had retail positions in London and Vienna, selling Bohemian porcelain. In 1895, Ernst Wahliss bought the Alfred Stellmacher Imperial and Royal Porcelain Manufactory, which existed since 1859. Ernst Wahliss died in 1900 and two years later, his sons Erich and Hans, purchased 600 moulds from the Royal and Imperial Porcelain Manufactory Vienna and began making reproductions of the porcelain. In 1905, Hans and Erich renamed the company in Alexandra Porcelain Works Ernst Wahliss. Since 1910, their focus increasingly moved to the design and production of faience pieces.
