It measures approx. 56 cm in height and 35 cm in diameter. Stefan Szczesny (b. 1951) Stefan Szczesny was born in Munich, as the son of the dramaturge Martha Meuffels and the writer Gerhard Szczesny. From 1967 to 1969 he attended a private school of Fine and Applied Arts in Munich, before he began his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and, as a visiting student, art history and philosophy at the University. During his studies he worked as a freelance art critic. In 1981, he moved to Cologne, and organized the exhibition ‘Rundschau Deutschland’ as the protagonist of the ‘Neue wilde deutsche Malerei‘ in Cologne and Munich. From 1984 to1988 Stefan Szczesny edited the magazine ‘Malerei, Painting, Peinture’. In winter 1990, he traveled to the Caribbean for the first time, where he began working on his Jamaica series and the ‘Streifenbilder‘. In 1994 the artist founded a studio in New York and in 2001 he established his studio at Les Mas des Palmiers in St. Tropez. Stefan Szczesny lives and works in Saint Tropez and Berlin. Peter Thumm (b. 1957) The German ceramicist trained as student of Heiner Balzar at the governmental School of Ceramics in Höhr-Grenzhausen, Rhineland-Palatinate. From 1978-1980 he had his own studio in his hometown Frechen, in 1980 however, he continued his studies at the College for Ceramic Design Höhr-Grenzhausen, which he concluded with a degree as ceramic designer. Since 1986 he works in his studio in Cologne and since 1999 he also owns a studio in Grimaud, Southern France. Thumm has already worked with many renowned artists, besides Stefan Szczesny also with Elivra Bach, Pamela Smilow or Fred Weidmann. His works and collaborations were on display in many exhibitions, for example at the EXPO 2000 in Hannover, 2005 in Cologne or 2008 in Bargemon, France. Many public and private collections also own some of his pieces, e.g. the Badische Landesmuseum in Karlsruhe or the Kolumba Museum in Cologne.
