Earthenware, white glaze and polychrome painting Germany, c. 2000 Stefan Szczesny (geb. 1951) - German artist Stamp of the ceramics studio 'Atelier Thumm' Height: 100 cm, diameter: 50 cm Very good condition This bulbous floor vase was created by the German artist Stefan Szczesny around 2000. The large ceramic shows a white glaze and a revolving flower décor painted in black, green, red, yellow and blue. The expressive execution and energetic brushstroke are reminiscent 1980s style of the 'Junge Wilde'. The vase bears a stamp of the ceramics studio 'Atelier Thumm'. The piece is in very good condition. It measures 100 cm in height and 50 cm in diameter. Stefan Szczesny (b. 1951) Stefan Szczesny was born in Munich, as the son of the dramaturge Martha Meuffels and the writer Gerhard Szczesny. From 1967 to 1969 he attended a private school of Fine and Applied Arts in Munich, before he began his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and, as a visiting student, art history and philosophy at the University. During his studies he worked as a freelance art critic. In 1981, he moved to Cologne, and organized the exhibition 'Rundschau Deutschland' as the protagonist of the 'Neue wilde deutsche Malerei' in Cologne and Munich. From 1984 to1988 Stefan Szczesny edited the magazine 'Malerei, Painting, Peinture'. In winter 1990, he traveled to the Caribbean for the first time, where he began working on his Jamaica series and the 'Streifenbilder'. In 1994 the artist founded a studio in New York and in 2001 he established his studio at Les Mas des Palmiers in St. Tropez. Stefan Szczesny lives and works in Saint Tropez and Berlin.
