작품 상세

"Glazed earthenware Italy, circa 1937 Marcello Fantoni (1915-2011) Signed Fantoni Italy Commedia dell'arte figures 11 ¾" and 11 ½" High. Very good condition This pair of commedia dell'arte figures by master Italian ceramicist Marcello Fantoni are from early in the artist's career. The masked figures in colorful costumes gaze upward in wonder. Each is signed "Fantoni Italy", along with the artist's cipher. These Fantoni figures, while quite different from the more stylized work for which he would later become best known, clearly show the artist's mastery of the medium. They can each successfully stand alone, but relate to each other in a wonderful way. The figures are signed Fantoni, Italy and are in very good condition with no visible repairs or losses. There is a certain amount of craquelure evident in the glaze, but the glaze is stable with no flaking. They measure 11 ¾" and 11 ½" high.
