Andrew Johnson. TREATY BETWEEN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND THE NEZ PERCE TRIBE OF INDIANS. [Washington, 1867.] Folio. 10, [2, blank] pp. Stitched. This treaty substantially reduced the Nez Perce reservation from the vast area guaranteed in the earlier treaty, and it restricted the tribe to a smaller tract in present-day Idaho. It became known as the "steal treaty," and its disputed legitimacy later fueled conflict during the Nez Perce War of 1877.
