Rare & Highly Collectible Navajo Sterling Silver & Turquoise Belt Buckle by Lloyd Oliver (1923-2011), one of the original 29 Navajo Code Talkers used in WWII. This beautiful buckle is signed on its underside by Lloyd Oliver | Approx. Size: 2" h x 3" W : Weighs: 1.7 ozt. Lloyd Oliver (April 23, 1923 – March 16, 2011) was an American veteran of the United States Marine Corps and one of the original 29 members of the Navajo Code Talkers during World War II, and the brother of fellow Code Talker Willard Varnell Oliver. Oliver served from 1942 to 1945, eventually attaining the rank of corporal. Oliver was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal. After the war, Oliver moved to Phoenix, Arizona where he learned silver- and metalsmithing, and developed a distinctive style as a jewelry maker. He supported himself selling his work through Atkinson's Trading Post in Scottsdale, Ariz., continuing well into his 70s.
