Chief Joseph: Nez Perce, Edward S. Curtis, 1900 Printed by Jean-Anthony du Lac, 1974 Hienmot Tooyalakekt (1841-1904) or Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce: 19th cent. Tribal leader and a friend of Edward S. Curtis. This Edward S. Curtis image was photographically printed by Jean-Anthony du Lac from a negative derived from the copper gravure plate (The official stamp of the Curtis Project on verso) Plate 13 x 17 3/8, Mat 18 x 24 inches. Mounted on original stamped art board and matted with a new brown mat. Inscribed in pencil in the lower margin: Chief Joseph: Nez Perce (Edward Curtis - 1900), and Printed by Jean-Anthony Du Lac 1974. Jean-Antony du Lac (French-American, 1929-2002) created a small number of orotones in the 1970s, using the process mastered by Edward S. Curtis. Edward Sheriff Curtis (American, 1868-1952)
