The backdrop in the painting is the Absaroka Mountains along the Eastern edge of Yellowstone. The road into Yellowstone from the east is one of the most breathtaking drives in the world and I never tire of it, as I'm sure the Native Americans felt the same each summer as they returned to the lush meadows and forrests of the high country. -J.G.
