작품 상세

Attributed to Nicholas Lancret (French, 1690-1743), black crayon drawing of young woman in flowing dress with back turned and accompanied by young suitor, c. 1730, unsigned, Ex Coll: L.E. de Kenner, London (1934) as by Lancret, on 18th century cream laid paper 8 1/8" x 4 7/8". [Signed drawings are uncommon. The drawing is quite typical for Lancret. Broad lines within geometric patterned subject seems to make the woman figure dependent on the angular composition. The dress is highlighted by broad accentuations to highlight folds. Related Lancret works are centered on a group of drawings in the Musee des Beaux-Arts, Besancon and Une lisuese in the Musee Carnavalet, Paris.]
