Mirvald‘s geometrically rigorous realizations are prime examples of his work, analyzing how the eye and mind together process visual information conveyed by the patterns of op art. The presented work, composed of circular segments with centers lying on a single axis, creates the optical effect of a stretching spiral on a dark background. Despite its absolute precision, it retains a sense of playfulness. It seems to vibrate before the viewer‘s eyes, shifting, changing shades, and encouraging the viewer toward active observation.
