Medard P. Klein (1905-2002) Untitled 1948 The original work in a very unusual medium is signed and dated lower right. The support is fabric (probably silk) laid to artist's board and painted with floating designs and motifs in paint, washes, airbrush and stenciling. Medard Klein received his formal training at the Art Institute of Chicago, the National Academy of Art, and the Chicago Studio School of Art. Throughout the 1930s and 1940s, Klein emerged as a significant figure in the non-objective movement, exhibiting extensively at prestigious institutions including the Museum of Non-Objective Painting which became the Museum of Modern Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, the San Francisco Museum of Art, and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. He was one of the few American artists invited to exhibit in the landmark Realites Nouvelles in Paris, linking American and European abstraction. Sight size measures 10.5 x 14.75 with a framed size of 18 x 22 inches.
